Smart Contact Lenses can detect blood sugar levels. They can do this since glucose levels in tear fluid correspond directly to those found in the blood, making continuous measurement possible without the need for thumb pricks. The information is continually sent to a portable device held by the diabetic contact wearer. This enables the diabetic wearer to manage their diet and medication more accurately. Smart Contact Lenses are not the lenses that are commonly used to improve sight. These lenses aren’t even for improving vision; they are state of the art technology that observes blood sugar levels for those suffering from diabetes. Recent studies show that glucose levels can be measured by monitoring the tear fluid in the eye, corresponding directly to those found in blood. These contact lenses are much more efficient than the past finger pricking methods that were painful and time consuming. The lens makes a continuous measurement and the information is persistently sent to a portable device for the patient to constantly check the levels. This allows the patient to manage their diet and medication safely and more accurately.
